Following the previous SDG Youth Agenda that the 2030 Youth Force in the Philippines Inc. (YFPH) initiated for the 2019 senatorial elections, and with the upcoming 2022 National Elections in mind, YFPH, in partnership with CIFAL Philippines, has once again led the creation of another SDG Youth Agenda making the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) a standard in assessing, choosing and voting a leader in the upcoming 2022 national and local elections.
Over 200 young people from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao—representing various sectors such as the academe, youth in public service, formal and informal sectors, among others—participated in a series of consultations cum focus group discussions from October to December 2021 to identify the most pressing issues in the country today and outlined their call-to-action for the next set of national elected leaders. This led to the development of this SDG Youth Agenda categorized into ten key areas anchored on the principles of sustainable development. These key areas of concerns are:
- Socio-economic development
- Food and Agriculture
- Health and Well-being
- Education
- Gender Equality
- Energy
- Industries and Innovation
- Human shelter and settlements / Sustainable Cities
- Environment
- Peace, Justice and Human Rights
The SDG Youth Agenda outlines the concerns of the Filipino youth on social and environmental issues using the SDGs as a framework. These are actions that they hope the candidates of the National Elections would take on in their campaigns and future policies. It lists the areas of priorities that young people believe should be prioritized by election candidates. The SDG Youth Agenda will be forwarded to all national candidates for such priorities to be considered. This is just one of the key components of the #Vote4SDGs campaign spearheaded by YFPH, in partnership with CIFAL Philippines, in the lead up to the election day on May 9, 2022.
The SDGs is at the core of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development which was adopted by 193 United Nations member-states, including the Philippines, in 2015. It is an urgent call to action for peace, prosperity, the people and the planet, to ultimately eradicate poverty while tackling the climate crisis.
Join organizations and individuals in supporting this SDG Youth Agenda to amplify the voices of the youth for a 2022 elections that champions accountability and sustainable development.
